Developed as a part of Kyle Triplett’s Rare Books and Special Collections course at Pratt Institute in the Spring of 2015, this site forms a digital exhibition and focuses on the development of I. N. Phelps Stokes’s pioneering work, The Iconography of Manhattan Island (1915–1928). Highlighting special collections holdings, books, and manuscript materials, the exhibition provides a glimpse into the editorial and collection process for one of the most exhaustive studies on the history of New York City.
A number of individuals were instrumental in the development of this project. Special thanks to the Library staff at the Brooklyn Museum, Miriam Deutch, and everyone at New York Public Library’s Archives, Manuscripts, and Rare Books Division, particularly Tal, Weatherly, John, Nasima, Brandon, Thomas, Jessica, Meredith, Ted, and Kyle.
